Merry Hill, NC – Lee Hoffman, Director of Athletics at Lawrence Academy, announced changes and additions to the coaching staff at the school. “As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in athletics we have made a number of changes to our staff that we feel will help us in our athletic goals. Over the past 50 years our teams have won over 100 conference regular season and tournament championships, nine NCISAA 1A State Championships, and seven NCISAA 1A State Runners-Up titles. We’ve also had over 40 of our student-athletes move on to participate in athletics at the college and university level.” Hoffman added, “We feel that our returning coaching staff in addition to our new coaches will put us in an even better position to produce championship teams composed of excellent student-athletes.”

Coach Blair Whitehead has been named as the new Varsity Softball Coach. Coach Whitehead served as an assistant during last year’s run to a State Runner Up title, and has moved seamlessly into the head coaching position this year. Coach Whitehead is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Exercise and Sports Science. Coach Whitehead was a multisport athlete in high school and was offered a softball scholarship to Methodist University and a cross country scholarship to UNC-Pembroke at that time. She ultimately chose to attend Pembroke, but is thrilled about returning to softball. Coach Whitehead is also a full time faculty member at Lawrence.

Coach Nicholas Stone has been named as the JV Boys and Girls Tennis Coach. The JV tennis teams are new to the athletic department this year. Coach Stone comes to Lawrence from Alexandria, VA, where he operated a summer tennis program. He has also served as an instructor at the Winston-Salem Recreation Department. Coach Stones is a graduate of Davidson College with a degree in Biology. He is a full time faculty member at the school.

Coach Diana Bennett is the new JV and Varsity Volleyball Coach. Coach Bennett brings a wealth of volleyball coaching experience to this new posting. She was an assistant bench coach at East Carolina University, coached three years with the East Carolina Junior Volleyball Club, and spent five years as the coach at Christ Covenant School. Additionally, Coach Bennett works college camps and clinics across the region. Coach Bennett earned her degree from Pensacola College (FL) and is also a full time faculty member at Lawrence.

Coach Zach Crim has joined the coaching staff from Pennsylvania and will serve as the Varsity Baseball Coach and the JV Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Crim most recently served as the pitching coach at 6A Central Bucks East High School (PA). He also worked for Total Skills Baseball, a baseball player development school in Pennsylvania. Prior to those postings, Coach Crim earned his Biology degree from Chestnut Hill College (PA) where he played four years of baseball. As a starting pitcher and team captain Coach Crim led his squad to the playoffs and earned All-Academic honors from the CACC and Academic Honor Roll recognition from the college.
